This class is aimed at sewers that have some confidence using a domestic sewing machine, but beginner sewers are not to be dissuaded from the challenge. The 4-gore bucket hat will be offered in a range of different sizes and colours. By the end of the day you will have completed your own version of The System's original design.
If you are new to sewing and would like to attend this workshop, you're more than welcome to attend without experience, but we suggest completing one of our introductory sewing courses or workshops first. The Fundamentals of Sewing Course, Chef's Apron Course, and Reusable Bag Workshop are all great ways to first establish the basics of machine sewing and increase your confidence.
You will create your own bucket hat design using a range of pre-cut textiles in a variety of colours and fibre compositions. This course will cover a wide scope of finishes and techniques such as:
-Sewing flat seams onto curved edges
-Zig-zag stitching and its uses
-Pressing to professionally finish a product
-All equipment and materials will be provided such as scissors, snips, and pins. Their use is included in the cost of the course.
-A variety of textiles for different tastes and skill levels.
-Most work will be completed on domestic sewing machines which will be provided. If you have your own machine that you are familiar with, you are welcome to bring it along, you may learn more about it through our class.
-Coffee, black and Japanese green tea.
